When you are trying to shop for a vehicle all on your own, the used car market can be a lot to handle, and everything gets pretty overwhelming really fast. Working with the right dealership while looking for a used Ford for sale in Westminster makes things much easier, however, because then you have people looking out for you who can guide you through the twists and turns of the car-buying process. Here at Faith’s Ford of Westminster, we are dedicated to helping all of our customers get the most out of their time spent shopping for a car, no matter what they're looking for. If you’re interested in a used Ford SUV, then you’ve come to the right place because we have an extensive selection of vehicles for you to choose from. Today, we thought it would be fun to go over the pre-owned Ford SUVs that are available so you can get a sense of what each one offers and see if we can figure out which of them is right for you.
The Ford Escape: Compact and Sporty
First released for the 2001 model year, the Ford Escape is a compact model and the smallest option in Ford’s current SUV lineup. This is a great choice if you’re looking for a used Ford SUV that can fit into pretty much any lifestyle, even if you’ve downsized things to keep your life simple. Its small size means you can get great fuel efficiency with the Escape, and it makes it easy to find parking spots anywhere you go in Westminster. If fuel efficiency is a particular concern for you, then Ford offers hybrid versions of the Escape that take performance and gas mileage even further—including plug-in hybrids with limited electric-only range. A second-generation Escape was released for the 2008 model year, followed by a third generation for 2013 and a fourth generation for the 2020 model year. A recent refresh for the 2023 model makes these a great choice if you want a used SUV with some of the latest features and design.
The Ford Edge: Midsize Comfort and Performance
If you’re looking for something a bit larger than the Escape but only need two rows of seats inside, then the Ford Edge is a great model to consider. The Edge is a midsize SUV that was first introduced in the 2007 model year and has been quite popular throughout its two generations. That means a pre-owned Edge can be pretty easy to find; Ford launched a second generation for the 2015 model year, followed by an update and facelift for the 2019 model, so keep those years in mind while looking at different used options. This 2019 update also introduced a high-end ST trim featuring a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is a particular favorite of ours. Ford discontinued the Edge following the 2024 model year, so this is a great option to look for when shopping for used SUVs, especially if you find an Edge ST model.
The Ford Explorer: Three Rows of Seating for Passengers
So far, we’ve looked at models with two rows of seats inside; if you need room to bring more passengers along with you, then this is the place to start. The Explorer is a three-row model and the oldest SUV that’s still available in Ford’s lineup; it launched for the 1991 model year and has been available ever since. You probably don’t want to go that far back when looking for a used SUV, so you’re better off sticking to the fifth-generation Explorer released for the 2011 model year or the sixth generation that started with the 2020 model. Numerous trim levels are available each year, so you can find a wide range of features inside different examples, but every Explorer is a great choice for a growing family in need of more seating.
The Ford Expedition: Full-Size Functionality and Power
The largest SUV in the Ford lineup, the Expedition, was first launched for the 1997 model year and has been a popular option ever since. Much like with the Explorer, you don’t need to go digging around to find a model from the 1990s; you’re better off with a used Expedition from late in its third generation, which launched with the 2007 model but ran through 2017, or a fourth-generation Expedition from 2018 and later. This is a large SUV that lives up to the image many people have in mind when talking about a full-size vehicle, which makes it perfect if you have a big family or you simply prefer the functionality of a big SUV when driving around Westminster. The Expedition also has very impressive towing capabilities, so this is a terrific pick for hauling a boat or camper behind your SUV.
The Ford Bronco: Rugged and Ready for Adventure
The original Ford Bronco first hit the road in the 1960s and remained an iconic option until the mid-1990s; after that, fans of the Bronco were left hoping for its return for more than 20 years. Finally, Ford brought the Bronco back for the 2021 model year with stunning new looks, bold engineering, and a design philosophy focused on making it the most impressive off-road SUV on the market. The modern Bronco is an off-road monster: a body-on-frame SUV designed to go anywhere and let you embark on the most ambitious adventures with a vehicle that refuses to let you down. With its Goes Over Any Type of Terrain (GOAT) modes and High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system, the Bronco is an incredible option for heading off-road and tearing up any trail you set your sights on.
The Ford Bronco Sport: Subcompact and Ready for the Outdoors
If you’re looking for exceptional outdoor capability and performance but want something small, then the Bronco Sport is the perfect choice. First released alongside the revamped, larger Bronco for the 2021 model year, the Bronco Sport doesn’t quite have the same level of trail-ready engineering, but it’s not far from it. You get the impressive GOAT modes with the Bronco Sport, just like the Bronco, with some examples also featuring a more powerful engine and additional modes for enhanced performance in different conditions. If you’re looking to tackle particularly difficult terrain, then you should look for the Badlands trim to get these enhanced features. However, any pre-owned Bronco Sport is a worthy adventure companion.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E: Ready to Electrify Your Drive
One final model you should consider when exploring used SUVs from Ford is the Mustang Mach-E, which stands out from the rest of this SUV lineup by being an all-electric option. The Mustang Mach-E is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), which means it lacks a gas-powered engine and runs on battery-powered electric motors instead. First released for the 2021 model year, the Mustang Mach-E is a powerful and gorgeous vehicle that quickly proved an SUV could be worthy of the Mustang name. Still in its first generation, the Mustang Mach-E has proven to be immensely popular and provides an incredible combination of raw performance and zero-emissions driving that makes it perfect as a daily driver and for enjoying yourself on the weekend.
