2024 Ford Expedition

A silver 2024 Ford Expedition Limited is shown angled left.

The 2024 Ford Expedition marks the sixth year entry in the fourth generation of the Expedition, and it comes with some minor changes for those looking to buy a brand-new model. Slotted into the full-size SUV category, the Expedition is a three-row family vehicle with a lot of utility, plenty of convenience, and a healthy dose of comfort features, and has been iterated upon as a 5-door full-size SUV by evolving its features and design since 1997. The robust offerings from the 2024 Expedition provide it with a competitive standing among its industry peers, such as the Chevy Traverse or the Honda Pilot.

For 2024, the Ford Expedition has added a number of exciting features that prospective shoppers might find intriguing from the full-size SUV. For instance, you now have a brand new color option that has joined the line-up in the form of Wild Green. This gives you an additional way to personalize the Expedition to suit your visual preferences. The Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package for select trims now comes with front tow hooks, and the USB charging ports in the second row now consist of two USB-C ports. You can now access SiriusXM 360-L as a standard inclusion for all the Expedition trims. Most notably, the highly regarded Ford BlueCruise 1.0 hands-free semi-autonomous system now has a standard 90-day trial on the Platinum trim with an available 3-years of activation that can be added as an option.

The Ford Expedition for the 2024 model year is also available in eight different distinct colors, so you can express your visual flair through unique color schemes for the Expedition. These colors include Stone Blue Metallic, Iconic Silver Metallic, Jewel Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Dark Matter Metallic, Oxford White, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, Agate Black Metallic, and the newly added Wild Green. You can get the Expedition in ten different trims as well, starting with the XL STX, XLT, XLT MAX, Limited, Limited Max, Timberline, King Ranch, King Ranch Max, Platinum, and Platinum Max.

Performance

A black 2024 Ford Expedition Timberline is shown parked on a rocky trail.

The Standard 3.5-Liter V6 Engine

The Expedition is available in two different powertrains, giving you an option for how much of the performance you can get out of the vehicle based on what your driving preferences are. The base engine for the Expedition is the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 that produces between 380 and 400 hp and 470 through 480 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired up with a 10-speed automatic SelectShift transmission.

The Available High-Output 3.5-Liter V6 Engine

The alternative powertrain is available for the performance trims, which is a 3.5-liter high-output twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that makes an impressive 440 hp at 510 lb-ft of torque. The high-output V6 is also paired up with the 10-speed automatic transmission, so you have smooth shifting and responsive acceleration. The Expedition also makes use of auto start-stop technology to conserve as much fuel as possible, even being as big as it is. This enables you to make use of a max fuel economy of 17 miles to the gallon in the city and up to 23 miles to the gallon on the highway in rear-wheel drive. If you opt for the four-wheel drive iteration of the Expedition, you have up to 16 miles to the gallon in the city and 22 miles to the gallon on the highway.

Other Features

Stability and handling is also a big part of the Expedition’s offerings, with a multi-link independent suspension and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control being standard across the trim line-up. What this feature brings to the Expedition’s handling is smooth responsiveness and an assurance that you get a vehicle that can handle turns with ease and maintain good speed on the highway. You also have Hill Start Assist both for the rear-wheel and four-wheel drive iterations of the Expedition.

Capacity

A blue 2024 Ford Expedition is shown being loaded with suitcases at an airport.

Capacity is a big selling point for the full-size Expedition, as it fulfills the role of not only a performance full-size SUV, but you can also configure it for off-road adventures, as well as a great family vehicle. You have multiple seating options from as few as five people to as many as eight people. The Expedition has the option of being configured to seat passengers across three rows.

Cargo Volume

You have a lot of interior space to make use of, too, including up to 172 cu-ft of interior passenger volume, so each passenger in each row has a lot of room to move around and relax. When it comes to cargo capacity in each row, you have up to 36 cu-ft of space behind the third row, up to 79 cu-ft of space behind the second row, and up to 121 cu-ft of space behind the first row with the other two rows folded down. This gives you a lot of room to make use of for storing everything from homework and school books, to backpacks, groceries, camping gear, and work material.

Take Everything With You With Ease

You can also easily access the different storage compartments and seating rows via a four-door design and a Power Liftgate with Liftglass. Inside, you have the availability of a panoramic vista roof, front tow hooks on the exterior, roof rack side rails for storing cargo on top of the SUV, as well as the availability of roof-rail crossbars. Additionally, the Expedition makes for a great family vacation vehicle thanks to built-in features like the Class IV trailer hitch, which enables you to attach a trailer to the hitch mount and tow up to 9,300 lbs worth of cargo.

Convenience

A family is shown inside of a 2024 Ford Expedition.

Having a large, utility-rich SUV at your command is great, but it’s also important to ensure that it’s designed to be convenient for you and your family. You have optional cloth seats, ActiveX seating material, or leather seats. Heated and ventilated seats are also optional, for those of you who need to keep passengers warm during the winter and cool during the summer. The front row captain seats also support up to 10-way power seats with memory settings and the availability of Active Motion Massage.

A Cabin Designed for Your Convenience

Available Tri-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control keeps the climate inside the cabin moderate, while the PowerFold with Power Recline seats makes it easy to fold up and fold down the seats for extra storage. You have cup holders, beverage holders, available carpeted flooring, and a cargo management system so you can store all your belongings with ease. Coat hooks for hanging up your dry cleaning are standard, while the auto-dimming rearview mirror makes it easy to see what’s behind you with crystal clear clarity.

The Ford Co-Pilot360 Suite and MyKey

The Ford Co-Pilot360 also offers up all of the safety and driver assists you could need to make your journey throughout the city and beyond a calm and collected one. This includes a Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and even Adaptive Cruise Control. And for those of you worried about getting the Expedition into and out of parking spaces, the standard inclusion of the rear parking sensors enable you to easily get into difficult parking spots. You also have the implementation of the MyKey feature for safety features that you can enable or disable for when your teen is driving the vehicle, this includes being able to put safety checks in place before they leave the driveway.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The standard inclusion of SiriusXM with 360L gives you a lot of media accessibility, especially with the availability of the SYNC 4A-powered 15.5-inch HD touchscreen display. You have an accompanying 12.4-inch digital driver display, and Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration. With the FordPass connectivity you also have 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot support, an available wireless charging pad for your smart devices, and a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system for the ultimate in-cabin audio experience.
